Applying for social security number

Hi, I am a UK trained nurse applying for licensure in the US (Florida)

Could somebody clarify for me that this is the correct order to start:

1) Apply for education report.

2) Apply for Licensure.

3) Apply for Social Sec. No.

4) Apply for NCLEX.

Also, not sure if I can obtain a Social if living and working still in UK.

If not, how am I meant to obtain one, as Florida BON won't issue License without Social.

Anybody been through the process - I would appreciate your insight!

many thanks.

Sorry, but there is no way to obtain a SSN# until you are actually in the US with a visa that will permit you to work and you go to the Social Security Administration office in person and apply for it. You will need to present documentation that you are with a visa that will permit you to work.

CES report for Florida

Application to FL BON sit for the NCLEX exam

Apply for job

You do not need the SSN# to sit for the exam. However, Florida will not issue a license without it and the are only giving one year from the time of application to present them with the SSN# or they are destroying files. They also will not permit endorsement to there if you do not have two years of experience in the US in the state where you got licensed. They are making it hard for a foreign nurse to work there.

I would recommend doing some reading here as to what is actually happening with visas now as well. You are looking at several years for a chance at a green card with things the way that they are right now.

Also add depending on when you did your training and type you may be short on hours as USA training is generalist and require hours both theory and practical in all areas. CES will highlight if you are short and would recommend full course by course if you continue on your journey
