Applying to Nursing school

Published

I have decided to get into nursing and I am super excited!! I have to spend this year upgrading to get all my pre req's in order. So that I may go for my BScN through the U of A. I will need to take a couple courses over next summer.

So If all my final grades do not show up on my transcript untill late August when the school needs them by the begining of august. What are my chances?? Should I just wait untill the next years intake?

Thanks

Jennifer

It sounds like you and I are in the same boat.:)

I'm working on pre-reqs this year, but the program I'm hoping for is BCIT and they require 30 post secondary credits which I'll need another year to work on. So I'll be applying for 2012. I'm worrying about the same thing you are, my courses won't be finished until April, well after the application proccess starts. I think they even start sending out acceptences by then! I'm hoping I can apply with interm grades, if not, I guess I'll apply for the Jan intake.

Does U of A have a Jan intake, or do you think you can apply w interm grades? How many classes will you still need for the summer term?

Hi Silverla,

Just some insider tips about BCIT, they actually "prefer" applicants with >30 post secondary credits. Many of the selected applicants for this year are either mature students (ie. have secure jobs or are parents) or students who are almost done university or have graduated with a degree already. So if you are only aiming for 30 post-secondary, it's a safer bet if you take some pre-req at BCIT directly to help make your application stronger.

As for U of A nursing, they offer different types of nursing programs so you have to choose which one applies for you the most. The 2-year one is only if you already have completed a bachelor degree, whereas the 4-year one, you can apply right out of high school (I think but not 100% sure)...
