Hello ALL,
After completing my enlistment in the military, completing my Bachelors and obtaining my LPN license i have finally decided to apply to Excelsior for my Nursing degree. Im choosing this route since apparently getting into a brick and mortal school is getting so competitive and wait times are ridiculous, this is the fastest route but as i have read not the easiest. In any case I have to complete sending all my paperwork and am already overwhelmed any advise and tips on getting organized once I start the program?? I will have all my prereqs completed once i begin so i guess thats half the battle. Any information on how to start this process as organized as possible will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

I am in the same boat. It is overwhelming. I have gone thru many, many threads to just read up on different points of views and tips. Best of luck to you!

call and talk to a nursing advisor at excelsior-they will fill you in on a lot. The school also has alumni that they can match you with to mentor you through the process. Their website also has a forum/chat area so you can talk to current students.
What I can advise you (grad from 2005):
#1=write yourself a school plan for the next year or so, make goals to work toward!
be very focused....very focused. Get your materials from excelsior, diligently study everyday if you can, go and take the test. If you pass, then you know about how much studying you have to do to pass a nursing class-then you can preschedule your tests. This will force you to have all of your studying done by that date and ensure that you are progressing through the classes. I also only had to do the nursing portion, all prereqs were done. Because no one else is setting when you have to test but you, it is easy to fall off the bandwagon and let months and months go by without taking a test. Remember that all costs go up every year-the continuing student fee, the test fee, the clinical fee. Try not to let too much time go by!
Remember that EC gives you details of every area that will be on the test, do not feel that you have to buy into a publishing company-if you want extra study guides you can also buy them used from other students. There are yahoo groups for excelsior and I am sure elsewhere that you can try different brands. But it isn't required!
good luck!

Be very careful of online programs! They will way overcharge you compared to brick/mortar schools. You can get into an ADN program without much difficulty. I know you're got BA/BS, but if you need a classroom setting, online may not work. You won't get a refund either. I have looked into these as I've been an LPN for yrs. All seem too good to be true. I know this is the tech age, but I used a paper planner with a different color pen for each class/event to schedule EVERYTHING! I had what to study when, symbols for tests/quizes, and adv. planning. I know these courses may have a time limit, but take notes if neccessary and immed. contact instructors with ANY questions. They may not get back to you quickly. If you're having trouble, you may want to find a textbook for it. A college bookstore is great for this! You maybe able to get a study group going. You survived bootcamp! YOU CAN DO IT!
Thank you, i think its about time i do it. Every year admission requirements change making things more challenging so might as well do it before October changes come in effect because i sure dont want to repeat my sciences.
Finally!!! I submitted my application and ordered my transcripts, now to wait on the credits eval......
