Applying to CC Nursing Programs in other states...a long shot?

Published

Im moving from one state to another with family and want to start a degree in nursing in the spring, so will be applying very shortly. I am trying to apply as an out of state student with a Bachelors degree. Does anyone know if it is fairly difficult to get accepted as an out of state student? I'm kind of at my wits end here as i don't have enough money for a BSN and the CC programs in the state im moving to are either too competitive or there's a waitlist.

Hello!

First off... welcome to the nursing world!

Second... you may start with the ASN degree alone in order to sit for the NCLEX-RN. Once you get your ASN and RN license, you can apply for a BSN degree in your new State with the in-State tuition rate (much cheaper) at that time.

While having a long term vision of your career is wonderful, I recommend to set it as a series of short term goals. That is because as you move along, you might discover something new you like better and this approach will give you the flexibility to adapt to new interests.

Hope this helps! :)
