Apply for RN/BSN program before pre-reqs are done???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey everyone, I understand there is up to a 2-3 year waiting list for RN or BSN programs. I have another year of pre-reqs to go but was told today that I should apply now to get the clock started. To me this sounds like a sneaky thing to do, not to mention my applications' grades would not be complete. I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this tactic??

It is common to apply for schools before you are done with your prerequisites. It takes a few months to a year from the time you apply until you actually start the program, and schools are not expecting you to just sit around for that year. Some schools will tell you on their website which prerequisites you have to have finished before you can apply and how many classes maximum you can still have outstanding at time of application.

Not sneaky at all. When I filled out my application in my last pre-req semester I had to put down where I was taking them and when they were going to be completed. They have a caveat upon acceptance, that if you don't pass your last pre-reqs with a C you are no longer allowed to start nursing school.

BTW, my school (UNC) doesn't have a wait list, it is strictly GPA based and their applications are accepted once per year. I applied in November, was accepted in January and started in May.
