Apply to CA jails before boards?

I have searched Depart of Corrections and allnurses....Can I apply online for a CA corrections position before I take my boards, or do I have to wait until after and I am a licensed profession? I saw on the online application that I need to put my license number in and I am tying to be proactive before I graduate May 08. (Of course I am applying to other specialties...I realize corrections in CA is extremely difficult to get into...but then again, everything is a adventure.

Thanks bunches for any info.

I was able to take the online exam for corrections in Calif. while still in school, but you have to be licensed before you can interview.

Thank you for answering my question. I have a scholarship and have to work county/federal/underserved/not for profit for three years and am trying to be ahead of the game.

Thanks again,

Melissa

whatever happened? Did you get the job? I'm in the same boat. Any hints?

It depends, some correctional facilities might hired you before you graduate and wait for you. Some of them might want you to have your license before they interview you. In my case, I applied when I was almost done with school, the DON told me she can't interview me without a license, but they have my info on file. The very next day after I found out I passed my boards I called her, she interviewed me and got the job right away. I am a new grad and a correctional nurse. I love it!
