Apply to ASBN or MSN program

I graduated in 2011 with a B.S. in Biology and pre- med track. I was very involved in college with leadership roles in the pre-med club, volunteering at the hospital, and in the community. My husband passed away from a long battle with brain cancer last year. Being with him in the hospital inspired me to pursue a nursing degree. My life plans have been on hold after a year of grief and coasting along. I am starting to feel the excitement of returning back to school for a BSN. Looking into accelerated BSN programs but wondering if i should pursue MSN? I was my husband's primary caretaker while he was on Hospice care but have been out of school for a while. Any tips would be greatly appreciated on applications. Thank you.

Do you want to become an NP? you can apply for direct entry MSN programs but in my area these grads have a hard time getting hired. They don't want to hire an NP who has never cared for a patient as an RN!

I have a similar undergrad story as you. (Biology/pre med) I did a 13 month accelerated BSN. I currently work in an ICU. it all depends on what your long term goals are!

So very sorry to hear of your loss.

Thank you so much! I guess I'm really not sure how far up I want to move in the Nursing Field. So if I do end up becoming an NP, I'wonder if I'll regret not doing Direct MSN ( costs and financial aid is a huge factor).
