Application Rejections

I'm a 2nd year PhD student. A nurse for 20+ years. I have lots of clinical and leadership experience. I keep hearing about the need for nurse faculty, but the barriers put in place my academic institutions are also a reason. I applied for roles that are 30% lower than my current salary. No experience, no job. Very disappointing. Anyone have ideas on getting that 1st teaching job?

As an MSN I also had hoped to become a nurse educator though I had no teaching experience. I found an LPN program that hired me with no teaching experience. I emphasized all the informal experiences I had - conducting in-services, mentoring/precepting, etc. Acquiring teaching experience in an LPN program can help you move up later.

Thank you for your advice. I've resolved to finish the PhD and then look for an academic role.

What is your Master's degree in?

I have a MSN and a Masters in Healthcare Administration

A great idea is to get your foot in the door and be a clinical instructor! Not too many desire to teach clinicals and most nursing programs are always hiring for clinicals. Be sure to check it out!
