Application Analyst

Hello! I recently accepted a position as an EPIC application analyst for OPtime. I have about 4 years experience as an IMCU, ER, and PACU RN. I also became a credentialed trainer in OPtime (Only did this for a few months) before I accepted this position. My credentialed trainer work was exclusively education for new hires. I'm a bit nervous because I have no IT experience and I feel like I don't know what's going on. I'll be headed to EPIC for training soon and am hoping I will feel better after that education. Is there anyone else who worked as an RN and moving to the informatics world with no IT experience? I'm being told a lot of the learning will come from doing the actual EPIC projects. Thank you in advance!

    I have been working in an Epic OpTime Analyst position for the last 1.5 years. Prior to taking this position, I worked as an Operating Room Nurse Educator, and was an OR nurse for 8 years. I had no Epic or IT experience prior to taking the analyst position. I went to Epic for training as soon as I was hired and spent the first 6 weeks working on my OpTime certification. I also felt like I didn't know what was going on at that point, so that is normal! The Epic training and certification projects definitely help you learn the basics, but there is a lot to learn after that as well. I learn something new every day still, and I love doing this work. Since you have clinical experience, and perioperative experience as a PACU nurse, this will work to your advantage since you will already understand workflows.     I am an optime/anesthesia analyst! I had absolutely no IT background before I went to epic to start my training. My only background is floor nursing in cardiac PCU. It was daunting at first but I become more and more confident as I go. We are going live April of 2019! You can do this for sure. Epic so far is really easy to work with!

    I agree with other postings here. You will definitely be overwhelmed at first. But, you'll eventually gain more confidence with experience. I also agree that you'll learn something new every day. Clinical Informatics hands on experience has been the best teacher.
