Hi there!

I'm currently traveling as a dialysis RN. I'm on my 2nd assignment with Foundation Medical Staffing. They specialize in dialysis travel.

So far, I really like it, but it can be rather stressful starting a new assignment. You need to hit the ground running and expect people to think that you know EVERYTHING.

The pay is a little different from perm position pay. I get a base hourly pay of 26/hr taxed. I then get 1170/mo tax free for meals and incidentals and free housing and utilities for this particular assignment. All assignment pay packages are different depending on which part of the country you are in, if you want insurance, if you have a tax home , and of you want the company to provide housing or are going to find your own etc.

If you need to fly to your assignment, your travel expense is usually reimbursed up to 500-600 dollars with most companies. If you drive, most will pay per mile.

If you are experienced and confident in your field, you can do well in the travel field. The up side of it all for me is that no matter what, good or bad, it's over at the end of 13 weeks and you move on.

Some agencies that deal with dialysis travel nursing are: Foundation Medical Staffing, Action Plan Medical Staffing, Renal Reserve.

Hope that this helps!
