Hello Everyone!! I'm applying to Community College of Philadelphia for nursing in the Fall. I have a BA in Psychology and my MSW, so I have a lot of the pre reqs. I took Chem 110 over the summer and am taking A and P I now. I just found out that since my biology course is over 10 years old, I need to take it again. They said I can take it at nursingabc.com.
The information sessions should be posted October 1.

Sounds like you are off to a great start. If you need any help or advice from an old RN dinosaur with 27 years experience in the Philly area, please email me. Do you know what area of nursing you want to specialize in? Psych and correctional nursing should come easy to you with your psychology and SW background. If you're interested in advanced practice nursing, the Philly jail system employs a few psych NP's.

hey mommyof3girls, I am applying to CCP nurse program also. I've been a paramedic here in the city for almost 7 years so like you, I have the majority of my pre-reqs banged out. This semester I had to take STS 101 because my high school sciences were ions ago. I look forward these upcoming information sessions.
Thanks!! I don't really care what type of nursing. I have interest in most of it. I'll do psych if I have to while doing
RN to BSN program but I would like to do more med/surg type of nursing.
My husband is a PFD firefighter!
I went to the Info session on tuesday!! Getting excited.

That was the original plan, but my orientation leader said an ASN is no longer enough to get a decent job in city hospital. I somehow missed this up till Wednesday, and i'm pretty unhappy: the whole point is to be on the correct side of the bed at Presbyterian by my 40th birthday.
I need another bachelor's degree like i need another hole in my head, but here i am, researching accelated second-degree programs instead of reviewing for that chem exam on Tuesday. I'll likely stay at CCP for another term or three of post-bacc/pre-req work, but i'll be taking my degree elsewhere.
I hear ya. I just need to do it the most cost effective way and I don't want to work in a city hospital. I live very close to Bucks and Mont. Counties so I'd be fine with a smaller hospital. I plan to do a RN to BSN program after CCP. I've been checking job postings at the smaller hospitals and they don't require BSN, they do require 1 year experience..that will be tricky.
