Any ideas??

Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do...

I am a Licensed Psych Tech in CA and am trying to challenge the LVN board so that I can do an LVN to RN program. I believe all that I am missing is 6 weeks of maternity and 6 weeks of Peds. I am wondering if anyone knows of any schools in the San Diego area that would take me for those sections only, or at least give me credit towards the program for the Psych Tech training and nursing experience that I already have.

Or, does anyone know of a place I could volunteer for those 6 week increments that would do like a preceptorship for me without being enrolled in a nursing program? I have plenty of basic nursing and medication experience, also my EMT-B... I would work for free :D

Thanks!

The hours must be in an approved school of nursing or they do not count.

Volunteering for those six week intervals will not count as meeting the requirements.

Have you actually checked directly with the Board concerning licensure as an LVN with only taking those two additional courses? If one has completed the required course hours, then they are not challenging the boards. The only ones that can actually challenge the NCLEX-PN exam are those that were medics in the military, or better known as Corpsmen.

Suggest that you contact the Board, or I should say Bureau, and see what they tell you. It is always best to never assume anything.

Best of luck to you.
