Any ED CNS' here?

Just wondering if there are any CNS here in this forum and what kind of 'work' do you in your department. I am a part time ED educator responsible for the unit education of regular staff, new hires, tech, orientation to new equipment and processes. I love my job. I love the people I work with and hope to seek out the experiences of others as I immerse myself into my role. I have also taught as adjust faculity which is very rewarding (love seeing them learn and love nursing). Just wondering what the CNSs are doing in the ED elsewhere. I would love to broaden my role, especially that of consultant and researcher.

    I am interested in this topic as well. I currently am an ED educator. I have been in this role for almost 5 years. I am heading into my second semester of my masters as a CNS. I don't know if this will be helpful, but ENA has recently put together a scope of practice for the CNS in the ED setting - http://www.ena.org/IQSIP/NursingPractice/Documents/ENACNSScope.pdf

    Interesting that since ENA is in IL, the role of CNS in IL in on par with that of NP.

    In the ER, the issue will be that as a CNS you will be limited to either adults or children and I can see how that would limit the role.

    Good point...I've worked with two CNS's when I was a staff nurse in the ED. Both graduated from a Med-Surg CNS program that did not have the peds content though they were obviously experienced ED nurses. The peculiarities of the ED arena seems to be neglected in terms of how NP and CNS programs are structured.

    Agree - I have now done two complete CNS post MSN certificates. Boy did I choose the wrong route.

    However, I can now see everyone...lol
