Any Advice PLEASE!

I would really like to be a nurse in the obstetrics dept., I would really like to help deliver babies and take care of them. I have heard this is very hard to get into. I am just now about to enter the ADN program and wonder if there is an extra degree I will need for this or extra classes I should go into.ANY ADVICE?? Thanks!!

You need to be an rn to work in labor and delivery and ob. Seldomly will they allow an lpn to work in those areas, at least in Virginia anyway. Yes it is very hard to get to work in one of those areas because many, many nurses love it and usually dont leave. Good luck in your endeavors!!!

Congrats on deciding your future as a nurse

I just received my ADN and am working in labor & delivery. I made an effort to introduce myself to the nurse manager of the unit when I was doing clinical there. I told her I wanted to work for her, and why. I also sent my resume directly to the managers of L & D of all the local hospitals in January. (To actually schedule an interview you usually have to go through human resources, but the resumes got my mane out there.) Since L & D positions are few & far between, I knew I had to get my foot in the door early. I was interviewing by February, and recieved offers from two of the three hospitals I applied. (The third didn't have any L & D positions open, and I had specified only that unit.) Having good grades helps too. The three of us hired for the unit were all the high GPA in our graduating classes.
