Any Accelerated BSN programs in Ocala??

Published

Hi everyone,

I am planning on getting my Bachelors in Nursing by taking the Accelerated 2nd degree BSN program since I have a Bachelors in Business already. I recently moved to Florida from New York and I wanted to know if there are any good colleges or universities that would have this program in Ocala. Can anyone help me out? Any advice would help! Thanks!

I don't know of any in Ocala, but UF and UCF have one. I'm not sure how far UCF is from you, but UF is only about 30 minutes. Classes are ALL day long (like 8am to 3pm) 4 days per week, so it wouldn't be that bad for you. (I just left that program)

Good luck!

Thanks np_wannabe,

Thanks again for the info. I am going to check out these two colleges. How long is the UF nursing program? How was the program in your opinion?

Hi Hopeful.

I really enjoyed UF's program--very interesting, the instructors were extremely knowledgable, and very intense. I should also tell you that I left after one month. I was occupied with school at least 50 hours per week, and when I was home felt guilty for spending time with my kids instead of studying! If you are single, or married with no children, you will have no problems. UF's program is 13 months long.

I don't know anything about UCF though.

I'm attaching the links to each of the program:

Good luck!!!

Thanks np_wannabe,

Thank you so much for the advice, you are so kind. I am sorry you didn't get a chance to finish the UF program, I hope it all works out for you! I am currently single so I hope I could pull the 50 hours per week off..we'll see what happens. Thanks for giving me a heads up on the demanding schedule.

USF and Miami have accelerated programs also, and so far as I know that's it for FL - at public schools at least. Check the requirements for each, apply to a few, and when you get in you may want to consider moving closer. I have classmates at USF that lived 1-2 hours away for our first semester, and the ones that haven't moved into town yet are trying very hard to make it happen.

Thanks MB37,

Go to this page, which is the Web site of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Then click on their link to accelerated bachelor's programs. They list 10 accelerated 2nd degree BSN programs in Florida.

Thanks centralflorida,

Thank you so much for the great website!!!

It was exactly what I wanted!

I really like the professors at USF, as well as my classmates. Administration on the other hand...The accelerated program is supposed to be 4 semesters, but they have just decided - after semester I was complete - to make us go for 5. Instead of being unemployed for a short time, we all now have to go get crappy-paying jobs for the last 2 semesters to stave off the boredom of taking less than full courseloads (can you tell I'm a little upset about this? I just got the e-mail 2 days ago). Feel free to apply to USF, like I said, the professors are fantastic and we often have the best NCLEX pass rate in the state, but I can't tell you how long the ABSN program will be for you when you start. We were the first class ever to start in summer, so they may switch the start date back to fall and be able to complete the program in 4 semesters.

Thanks MB37,

Thanks for your input on USF. The added semester in the Acc. BSN program is horrible. I am so sorry, I hope it all works out for you! I am planning on applying to USF and I have two more questions. How many students are enrolled in the program? Since I am new to Florida would I be able to dorm at USF while in the program or is it for 4 year degree students only?
