Anxiety attack or not??

Hi,

I apoligize if anyone is offended that I am asking for professional opinions to a personal problem but we really need an educated opinion.

My husband has been having trouble breathing for the past two months. He just told me on Saturday night so I told him that he should see a dr. this week. Today it became much worse so he went to the ER. He says that he was having a very difficult time breathing and his hands and feet were numb to tingling. In the ER they did a chest X-ray and blood work. I believe from his decription that a blood gas test was done, but no EKG. The Dr told him that he is having an anxiety attack and prescribed Zanex. My hubby told the Dr repeatedly (as well as the nurse) that he was not under any unusual stress. My husband is 31 healthy, works out 4 times a week, is 5' 10", 170 Lbs. He does have ulcerative colitis but it is under control and he is not on meds for it. He has never been diagnosed with asthma but does have allergies.

Does this sound like anxiety to you or should we seek a second opinion? He is home now and is still having a hard time breathing although without the numbness in the extremities.

Hello,

My husband just recieved a call from his dr office and they want him to come in Thursday to discuss the blood work results. This sounds bad to me, but maybe this is routine for this particular office. I am trying not to panic myself and am just hoping for good news.

Hi,

Well my hubby went to the Dr today and they found no problems on his blood work. The doctor is now wanting to look at the possiblilty of asthma. She prescibed an inhaler today for him to try. She also switched his anti-anxiety meds to Lexapro. Hopefully he will not have any of the dreaded sexual side effects. That's all I need, the stress of nursing school and no nookie:)

I really HATE the Bob Dole "ED" commercials--but having had some experience with anti-depressants, it's not quite what you think. It doesn't mean that people are less inclined, necessarily. What it does mean is that attempts to act on sexual feelings ends up being frustrating, because there is no resolution.

Asthma--asthma can be a very dangerous and life-threatening disease. My doc think I may now have it, and I am not one bit pleased.

Oh Lord my last two long term partners (both in their 40's) had ED - they still wanted to look at dirty pictures but when it came to interest and performance for the real thing - forget it.

And I'm not homely either! But it sure didn't do my self esteem much good -

Thanks so much for all of the wonderful responses from May!

After the asthma was under control my husband's colitis became increasing worse. The first week of August he was hopitalized after losing 20 lbs. He was readmitted a few days later after a severe GI bleed that landed him in a trama room. The last weekend in August, after 3 trips to ICU and losing and additional 10 lbs, he had a subtotal colectomy with ileostomy. We are also unable to get a firm diagnosis if this is ulcerative colitis or Crohn's. The pathology report came back "indeterminate". He is adjusting very well to the ileostomy, infact much better than I thought he would.
