Anesthesia techs ?

Hey,

Well i was trying to look for more hospitals jobs since i did not get my first choice for a nurse extern and just trying to find anything that is still pt envoled in the units that i am interested in. But anyways i saw this listing for a anesthesia tech and i dont believe that i have ever heard it talked about here; but i was wondering is there a lot of these, what do you think about them, do you ever let them do more than just refill meds, ect. Please let me know; i am thinking about appling for the job, but it is alittle bit further of a drive for me than i wanted.

Anesthesia techs do not usually do anything with medications. Those are supplied to the CRNA by the pharmacy. At the most, they may pick up something at the pharmacy, but no more with any drug.

Usually they are responsible for cleaning the blades after intubations, changing out the circuits for general anesthesia cases, etc. And there is normally not any patient contact. Patients are either asleep, or out of the room.

I used to be an anesthesia tech. We did quite a bit back in 97-99. We would assist the anesthesiologists in the heart rooms with mixing / preparing medications under their direct observation, spin down blood from the cell savers, and assist them with swans / difficult airways. It was a great job. Most of it was maintenance of equipment / room turn over, and the anesthesiologists were very gracious most of the time (until I asked them what a CRNA was, lol).

I am not sure if the laws have changed as far as preparing medications etc, but check the place out, ask how involved they get with patients etc.
