Anesthesia software

Cant give much guidance about modern PDAs, but I do have an iPhone. While I do love my phone, it is almost useless in the reference category. There are some homebrews out there that are working, but as far as loading a mainstream drug reference, etc... you are just out of luck. You can google and find answers but it is somewhat slow and depends on good signal or wifi. Love it as a phone, hate it as a PDA.

As far as I can tell it still doesn't function as a pda. There are programs you can purchase and instead of downloading them you can access them via the internet. The question would be...do you have wireless internet access in the OR? In a surgery center?

avoid the iPhone, go with a windows pocket pc compatible phone...Treo, or something else will give you more options for software and freeware downloads. I had a dell pda in school...but if I could do it all over again, would get a phone with windows pocket pc so did not have too many devices. as far as software the most useful for me were Sota Omiguchis (sic?) drug handbook for anesthesia, and the Mass general handbook. Had Yao and Artusio problem mgmt, had Barash for PDA...both were mediocre at best.

Cool thing with the PDA is I could view all the ppts from lecture, check my email, and manage casecounts. I must say, you had to be a total geek to use a pda when I was in school (2005-6), most people bought pdas for clinical and never used them...that is probably different now that you can combine this technology into a smart phone...at least you will use the phone if you find the pda too cumbersome...also a lot of the software you can get for free from the drug reps who have textbook / education software grants.
