Can anyone offer me advice for taking the test?

I am not a studier, how much studying did you do?

Were you able to pass in one take?

Specializes in Psych, Eating Disorders.

I wish someone would reply to this…I'd like to know, too! :)

Specializes in Psychiatry, Forensics, Addictions.

I took the test last November and passed it on the first try. The test was similar to NCLEX style questions. I have worked in the mental health field for 15 years, so I found the test to cover pretty basic, straightforward material.

I read and took notes from the official ANCC Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing book. Study time would depend on your knowledge base. After reading the book, I studied for about a week, but I probably wouldn't recommend that. Give yourself more time.

Here's a link for the book.

Good Luck!!![emoji106]

Specializes in Psychiatry, General Medicine.

Ditto on the official ANCC book. If I remember right it can also get you 22 CE credits that are psych specific. All of that helped. The study time was essential and helpful. I had only 3 years in the field when I took it, though. It was challenging but I passed on the first try & did not walk out thinking "There's no way I passed." While NCLEX-like questions, it does not turn off. So it's a long test that took me nearly the entire 3 hours to do.

I just graduated and need to take it. I paid, just waiting for my school to send my tanscript.

We used Barkley for the semester to study, honestly the quizzes were not helpful. The audio/video content was okay.

Did anyone buy the online practice test from ancc?

How about exam edge or board vitals?

Just looking for extra study material, I am so nervous. I want to pass the first time!

I'm assuming you mean the ANCC PMHNP cert exam? It was fairly random, a lot of psych, a lot of general medical stuff, and then some basics. I would review both psych and FNP material for it, especially to cover the professional practice area and basic medicine, labs, primary care etc.
