Wondering if anyone could give me information in regards to preparation for the ANCC exam. I understand ANCC has an online review course. Has anyone taken this course and do they recommend the course? Unable to find testimonials on ANCC's website about any of their available courses.

I took Margaret Fitzgerald's live review course (FNP) and also used her review book. I had no trouble passing the exam after taking the review course. I know she also has on-line or recorded review courses. I still use her book in practice, cause it's so well organized and has a lot of good info. I would highly recommend her materials.
Goo luck!
Was the review book part of the course, or was it extra? If extra, what is the name of the book and where did you order it from? thanks.
She did give out a workbook at the course, but I bought her review book when I started my NP training and used it to study all year. The title is "Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination and Practice Preparation". I got it on Amazon. Fitzgerald has her own website. www.fhea.com
Did this particular textbook cover research, reimbursement, laws and regulations, scope of practice, etc? If not any recommendations on preparing for these topics which will be included in the exam?
thanks.
No, it was pretty much just clinical stuff. There won't be anything on the exam in regards to scope of practice or laws since they differ from state to state. I also don't remember any questions on reimbursement. I would take a look at the ANA standards and code of ethics before the exam. I had several questions pertaining to those documents. When are you planning on taking the exam?
Probably will take the exam before the end of the year, or during the first of the year. My university required students to take the APEA review course. Fitzgerald's seems to be the course that other former students recommend. You also highly recommended their course. I will probably purchase their CD tapes and the review text. Hopefully I can locate them on Amazon or Ebay. Do you recall any questions on the ANCC exam that were inclusive in Fitzgerald's review couse?
I can't recall any specific questions, but most of the material on the exam was covered in Fitzgerald's course.

Recently did the ANCC Adult NP exam.
Mainly NP role and practice issues, culture, ethics and decision making.
Leik (print) & Fitzgerald (audio) useful for consolidating medical content.

The Fitz class is a really good class and review book, but you will be cutting it close if you don't review from another source. When I studied, I sat down with my Fitz book and then an FNP book by Leik. Fitz leaves out a LOT of stuff and so does Leik so they are a good balance. Leik has a great chapter about national issues/theory/ANA nursing policy, etc. that ARE on the test. Leik comes right out and says "there WILL be a test question on X" and there was!
The test is really weird. I honestly walked out of the exam not knowing if I had passed or not!

I agree that fitzgerald and hollier are excellent sources for clinical content. Anyone planning on testing make sure you concentrate on nurse practitioner roles, reimbursement, ethics and ANA content. There are a lot of questions covering policy, theory, roles, ethics, culture, and scope of practice.

What source(s) would you suggest for nurse practitioner roles, reimbursement, ethics, policy, theory, roles, ethics, culture, and scope of practice? :dzed:
