almost graduating

hey there ill be done with nursing school in about 6 months and i want to start thinking of where im going to work...similarly to other new nurses i dont really care for medsurg although i can tolerate it. my biggest problem with it is that i am small and have a hard time lifting and turning all these total patients (even with the proper body mechanics) i have been working as a tech through out nursing school but at the end of a day on a medical floor for adults i am exhausted with the wear and tear it puts on my body with all the changing and turning and moving....you get the point. I recently did a rotation on a peds floor and liked it but i always thought of my self as an adult nurse, im also thinking OR, or outpatient but i dont know if thats wise as a new nurse to do? can any one give any advice?:nurse:

No real advise here.

I have only been a nurse for just over 1 year. I work in adult acute medicine (where we do all that lifting/turning).

However, I just ran into someone from my class who works in surgery. She loves it. Got the job just out of school.

Good luck to you!

I work in peds and do a lot of lifting, best advice is find a job you will love and figure out a way to deal with the rest. Making friends with the stronger people on the unit is always a good idea (I am 6'4 and have a LOT of friends come time to change/transfer patients) there is strength in numbers (save your back)
