Algebra help please

I have two equations that I just can't figure out. Can someone look and see if they can tell me how to figure them?

16x-8=

x^2x - 6 = 0 then x is ?

I have to be able to solve these for the admission exam on Tuesday Thanks

By the way, in most programming and computer equations, "^" means "raised to". x^3 is "x raised to the third" or y^8 would be "y raised to the power of 8".

2ner has it right. You MUST factor. Then check it by putting in the -3 where the x is. Then put the +2 where the x is.

Also, anything raised to the zero power is 1 [one].

The easiest way for me to factor, is to consider what numbers will go into the largest number. In this case it is 6. So 3 x 2= 6. The ONLY other on you can use is 6x1=6.
