alcoholism

Published

I need some advice. I am an APN and have a problem with alcohol. I went to rehab in June and stayed sober for about 6 weeks, but slowly relapsed and now by job is at risk. My supervisor wants me to self refer to TPAPN or he will.

What is the cost for the program and how long will I be unemployed. I am the sole provider for my family and cannot afford to be with out a paycheck. Thanks.

Hi Kathfer-

I am sorry you are suffering with your alcoholism right now. It may seem like money is the main concern now, but in reality, your life is in danger.

I also would strongly recommend to retain an attorney with experience dealing with nurse licensure issues in your state.

Your addiction will try to tell you that it's not that bad, you can make it without help, etc. This is a lie.

Many nurses before you have gone through the same and even worse when it came to economic survival. It seems overwhelming now, but you will get through this if you choose honesty and sobriety.

I will try to send you a PM with more ideas.

Good luck and please let us know how it is going.

when i went to treatment i literally had exhausted all my savings, leaving the state i resided in and my two children and soon to be ex-husband with 17 dollars in the bank. i had lost my job of 4 years due to attendance problems related to my addiction. what i'm getting at is things get worse before they get better if you don't seek help when you know you need it. sounds like you have reached a place where you are at least willing to "admit" you need help or are you complying because your boss is going to report you if you don't?

alcoholism is as much a disease of the mind as it is the body, this is where the healing begins, this is where the healing starts, when you come to where you are broken within...the light meets the dark. stop digging! i know the weight of this world can take us down like gravity, especially in active addiction. things will get better if you do what is required and are honest in the process.

just food for thought!!

I am sorry for the position you find yourself in. Your life is getting ready to change. Ask you supervisor if you would be able to keep your job if you self-report? If not, take actions to live life totally broke. No one will hire you through the begining of this process. They have a right to assume you are not trust worthy. Money will be your biggest worry with the least solutions. You need to heal, so before you loose everything take steps to change you money, the way you spend it, and try to secure your assets now. Each nurse have gone through this, I am going through this, I thought I could handle the financial downsize, I am currently in foreclosure. I really don't know if an attorney can help. I know nurses who have spent big bucks on an attorney's fees and still when the board takes action they mean business and nothing the attorney will say or do can help you. I understand the board of nurses are like diplomate, they are in a class of their own. They practice a different type of law something like military law, civil law has no place with in the board of nursing.

Just wanted to let you know that I am praying for you.
