AIN or EN questions...

I think you would need to check with your nurses board for the EN as there are usually some modules you need to do. An AIN is unlicenced, so you should be able to find work in a nursing home after you have done some clinical experience with your course.

My daughter worked as an AIN during her course without doing a cert III in aged care, as well she did a cert III in pathology collection during the summer break and worked as a pathology technician. By the time she graduated she had a thorough grounding in basic nursing care, PEG feeds, experience in taking blood, ECG's and spirometry plus a lot of self confidence in starting her grad year.

Usually, once you have completed first year nursing, you can be employed as AIN without having to do the certification course.

As for working as an EN, you need to be registered as one first, so contact QNC and see what else you need to attain EN registration.

I worked as an AIN when I was doing my nursing studies. I was too busy :uhoh3:trying keeping up with studies and family so I took the easier job. I actually learnt a whole lot more about nursing while working as an AIN and that helped me with my studies;) So, if you can get a job as AIN or EN ............GO FOR IT.

For EN you need a Tafe or hospital-trained cert.

For AIN, u can get a cert too but if you are in 2nd semester of 1st year BN, u r considered AIN qualified without need for the cert.

If you are doing BN, definitely work as AIN (or EN if u have the cert). It is extremely useful and good money!

For pathology, u need another cert to be certified to take bloods.
