So I went to my first drill. For any soon to be reservists, this is what I learned my first weekend:
1. Hurry up and wait. There will be a lot of waiting for something to happen and when that something happens it will be expected to be done right away, and then back to waiting.
2. The army is very good at killing...trees. There is a lot of paperwork and signing your name.
3. Put yourself out there and introduce yourself. I found that by telling people I was new they took me in and offered pieces of advice.
4. You will meet a lot of great Americans that have similiar interests to you. Nursing and serving America.
5. Read as much as you can and learn as much as you can about the military and ask current/former military members as much and as many questions so that you will be as best informed as you can be.
It was a good experience and I have a lot to learn. Im looking foward to it. If anyone has any questions send me a message.

Hey, CSHRN,
Thanks for the post, my first Battle Drill Assembly will be in Jan. '07. In the old days we just called it " drilling ", or weekend drill. I'm in the 345th CSH in Jax., Fl. What outfit are you with?
The 344th. Interesting. We are spread out over three locations Ft. Dix, NJ, Ft. Hamilton, in Brooklyn, and Ft. Totten in Queens. I'm at Ft. Totten.
CSHRN,
The 345th CSH is a part of the 332nd Medical Brigade, which itself is headquartered in Nashville, TN. Interestingly enough, my unit is located within the confines of Jacksonville Naval Air Station, wonder how many other Army Reserve units are colocated like that? There are other CSHs assigned to the 332, but I'm not sure where they are or what other type units - supply / logistics, etc, are also included under the brigade framework. Hope to find out more after I start actively participating.
Regards,
Eric

Hello,
Holey cow Athena...looks like I'd better find a foster for my cats much sooner as this is a lot of moving around!...Your home base is NY yet you are assisgned at Fort Dix, yet you are at Staten Islan NY. You will go to San Antonio in three months and you are awaiting deployment? That is five different locales all in one post.
There is not way I could arrange 5 different housing situations that would take three cats and let me move that often. Yikes.

Hi. I'm Ottilie, currently with the 405th CSH in Hartford, CT. I'm planning to move to Jax in June and would like to contact the 345th in regards to transferring. Would anyone know how to possibly reach them, please? I'm been searching for a contact number for days. Thanks so much.
