Hello Everyone,
I am active duty stationed OCONUS and looking at the AECP. I currently have a Registered Nurse license. I want to apply for an RN-BSN on campus program. Has anyone with RN license apply for this program and got selected? What schools are AECP friendly with RN-BSN? I am doing a lot of research into this and would appreciate any help or direction given. Thank you!

I have not heard of anyone doing AECP as an RN already, that is interesting! You'd have to find an in-residence program that would meet all the criteria ... hmmmmm. Most state universities offer their RN-BSN online, it seems. I just looked at Armstrong in Savannah because I know they are AECP-friendly, but their program for RN-BSN is online. Have you contacted a healthcare recruiter?

Thank you for replying. I have found schools that have on campus RN-BSN program which will meet the AECP requirements. I already talked to the recruiter here in Germany and he doesn't see why I shouldn't qualify for the program. I also contacted another recruiter State side and was told they have never heard of someone who already have RN license. He thinks mine might be a special case.
In reading the AECP guidelines, I think you're right, as long as you meet rank and GT score criteria and all that jazz. And you are probably a special case - I am not sure how many enlisted RNs there are, but you get to blaze the trail. :) Keep us posted!

Hi,
I wanted to put my two cents in this thread. I am an LPN and graduate with my ASN RN in October. I'm currently in the reserves, but am wanting to go active as a nurse. I'm starting the process of putting together a packet for AECP. I asked my POC for a list of schools that have historically been used for AECP students. Most people on AN have used Austin Peas in TN or Old Dominion in VA. I've also seen several TX schools mentioned as well as the one in KS and UM Maryland. I'm willing to up and move to timbuktoo for whatever school will fit well with my prereqs and such. Since I'm still in school now, I don't really have the time to hit the books for a chemistry course so that is a small issue.
When do you return from Germany? I'd love to walk this journey with you. Good luck!
And sorry to hijack, but a question some folks may be able to answer. If for some reason I'm not accepted into the AECP, my plan would be to carry on and get my BSN on my own. Would I then be able to do green to gold and commission with AMEDD, going from my current status as reserve to active duty? I've asked my recruiter and POC, but it's the weekend and I'm an anxious woman.

AECP sounds like the Navy's MECP Program. Just make sure your BSN program is approved or you will not be able to be commissioned. The Navy instruction (which I'm sure is similar to the Army & Air Forces's) states you must be accepted to an NLNAC or CCNE-approved BSN program. I've met people who've tried to come in as Navy Nurses who either had an ADN/RN or a non-NLNAC/CCNE BSN and were denied. Many civilian hospital's just want RNs (who've passed NCLEX) but the military is very particular in this regard.

I am also looking into AECP. Can anyone enlighten me. My recruiter says I have to give him an acceptance letter before we can start the packet. All of the schools I have checked with say they don't review and accept students for the coming school year until Sept/Oct. How can I get a packet submitted to the board in July if the schools can accept you until September?

What were the programs you found that were not online? I am also looking and can not find any?
