Oct 8, 201411 yr Hi at my new school.now wondering how I can deal with this betterThis last week we divided our class in half 5 were nurse 5 patientsA few days ago I was told 9 people made a complaint against me and they said I made sexually inappropriate comments ie those are big boobsWhen I'm the nurse I just follow procedure. Is it OK if I palpate your abdominal?3 times I had meeetingd saying they would fail meThe school said stay away from girls.now i only work with guysI asked for written proof, for particular details such as how many times was it said, and if this ever happens at this schoolThe student services manager said I might nee to wear a ring another guy just said don't joke around with them and detachSo what can I do to protect myself I never saw this coming
Oct 8, 201411 yr You have had interpersonal relation issues with other students and school administration in the past. It seems this is your third attempt at a nursing program. Start with the simple: Did you make the comment or anything similar? Even joking or under your breath? If so you are lucky you were not dismissed on the spot. If the school states stay away from certain other students, follow their advice. Nine separate complaints combined with your previous nursing school difficulties suggests it may be an issue with the student and staff perception of your attitude and actions that may be the issue as opposed to you being a victim. Nursing is not the best choice for everyone. Just because one wants to be a nurse doesn't mean that they should. Don't challenge instructors or administration; from experience you should know that only causes further issues and puts your student status at risk. Keep your head low and follow school policy as written. Don't be confrontational (asking for a specific detailed list of accusations can be viewed as confrontational) and do exactly what is asked of you. Don't antagonize other students. Don't attempt to make crude jokes as it will likely backfire. Do your work exactly as assigned. Do the assigned reading and projects. If you are expelled or dismissed from your third attempt at nursing school you should probably consider another education program different from nursing.
Oct 8, 201411 yr The student services manager said I might nee to wear a ring another guy just said don't joke around with them and detach. Another male student and the student services manager already gave you great advice. Follow it.
Oct 8, 201411 yr Author Yes trying to be positive and do what they say but seems odd that I am having these problemsI was elected class rep and seem to get along with everyoneAnd no I would not say thatBut yes I am just doing my own thing, super professional ,don't help anyone, no giving advise
Oct 8, 201411 yr Author 9 people said I said the sexual comment ..I found it odd since how can 9 people be at bedside when I'm doing assessment and vitals and the language is strange..I am.more quiet Asian and analytical
Oct 8, 201411 yr Based on your history, (I peeked at some of your posts) my advice is that you need to take a very long break from the nursing program and work on you. Something isn't right. Whether it's personal skills, a language barrier, personal issues or something else entirely, I don't know. I do, however, truly believe that you need to take a step back, learn some life skills, and re-evaluate.
Oct 8, 201411 yr Author Worked on me OK how come I got elected class rep if I don't have good people skills?I have been getting along with everyone...But I'm looking at more of the preventative stuff like communication skills so people don't misinterpret
Oct 8, 201411 yr Author I did learn life skills ..I read over 200 books that's how I got elected rep and formed tons of study groups
Oct 8, 201411 yr Author Well the main prob is I gave advise to some girlShe got ******* out for not being prepared in labsSo as the rep she came to meI told her follow chainTalk to teacher, then team leaderBut I gave her advise to She said should I say how much the teacher hurt my feelingsI said no just apologize and be prepared for labs from now onSo I did it on front of 6 girls Same day I got pulled asideTeacher said they complaining that I said boobs thing4 days later.I was told not suppose to give feedback So OK I got my instruction what to doBut as the rep do I not help to resolve conflicts?
Oct 8, 201411 yr Oh Danlee I just think you make this stuff up. There is no way anyone does the stuff you do in all of these programs who claim to have attended. Most people learn after their first mistake. It's also advice, not advise unless you are in the UK.
Oct 8, 201411 yr Might I also just add, sexual harassment is a very big deal. Don't come on here to make this stuff up. Anyone who doesn't understand the implications of what you did does not need to be in nursing or working with people, period.
Oct 8, 201411 yr It's advise in Canada. Just like programme. He's in Canada. Sexual harassment is illegal in Canada too.
Oct 8, 201411 yr Well the main prob is I gave advise to some girlShe got ******* out for not being prepared in labsSo as the rep she came to meI told her follow chainTalk to teacher, then team leaderBut I gave her advise to She said should I say how much the teacher hurt my feelingsI said no just apologize and be prepared for labs from now onSo I did it on front of 6 girls Same day I got pulled asideTeacher said they complaining that I said boobs thing4 days later.I was told not suppose to give feedback So OK I got my instruction what to doBut as the rep do I not help to resolve conflicts? Not usually it is not your job to resolve conflicts. It's most likely your job to listen and defer to the instructor or school student services. If you do not understand your role as class rep ask school administration as to your role expectations/description. It seems there may be a lot if miscommunication and misinterpretation between you and everyone else. You cannot learn social and interpersonal skills by reading 200 books. Those who have poor interpersonal relationships need 1:1 or small group facilitated sessions to improve communication skills by actually interacting not reading texts. If your situation escalates to being dismissed I strongly consider you reconsider nursing as a career. You've been dismissed twice from an RPN program and are now threatened with dismissal from an LPN program per your posting history. Three strings and your out, in this case it seems to be you not them.
