Hey everyone! As a new grad NP do you think starting in a specialty could be limiting in the future? Also, what is a normal amount of time to spend charting/reviewing labs/imaging and responding to patient messages outside of work?

Thanks!!

Zero...there is nothing "normal" about it

I work in occ health and have never taken work home or worked from home to complete charting/reviews/msgs, etc. All my charting is completed by close of business.

Depends on what you're ultimate plans are...if the specialty is completely irrelevant then it's limiting. If not, then it could be a potential advantage.

Thanks for the response!

Talking to people I've been hearing 50-60 hour work weeks due to charting...

I am unsure what I want to do... but have been talking with a GI job.

Then take that into account during salary negotiation. If there's no negotiation then it's a major impact factor to the salary being offered.
