Advice

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I would be very greatful if anyone could give me any information or advice please. I am an English registered nurse who has just taken the CGFNS exam for foreign nurses and am waiting for the results before i can take the NCLEX exam to get a Texas nurses license. My question is, do you think that it would be possible for me to apply for a certified nursing assistant job while i am waiting for my texas nursing license? I have been on the internet searching for nursing assistant jobs and all that comes up is Certified nursing assistant jobs. Do you think employers would take into consideration that i was a qualified nurse of 2 years in England and before my nurses's training, i was a nursing assistant for 2 years and that i hold a current nursing license for the UK. Or do you think they will insist on a certificate obtained here in the U.S. before they would even consider hiring me.

I am very frustrated at the moment because i want to work and am able to work, but keep coming up against all sorts of obstacles!

Your input and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Xina.

Not all nursing assistants are certified. I would think with your background it would take you about half a day to find a job as an N.A.

What's your visa status? I don't think you can qualify for a working visa (H-1) as a nursing assistant.

Check with the state board of the state you will be working in. Here in the U. S. nursing and nursing and assistants are regulated by each state. Type in key word "state board of Nursing" and the name of the state to find what you need.

I believe in most states a CNA must have 150 hours of classroom and clinicals combined then pass an exam. You may be eligible to waive the schooling and just take the exam. The best and most accurate answer though will come from the state board it self.

It may be that you can granted a restricted temporary license to practice nursing. Ask them.

I definitely agree! The Texas board has always been very helpful to me, so I would definitely give them a call.

Thanks a lot for your input guys.

I do have a visa, a work permit, and a social security #, all i need now is a job!

I will try the state board of nursing in Texas and see what they can tell me.

Fingers crossed!
