Question... what makes for a good ER tech? What are some of the things that they do that you appreciate, and what are some of the things that they do that annoy? What advice would you give to someone who is about to start working as a ERT that is somewhat inexperienced...besides "bring your rollerskates!" :)
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I've been working in the ER for about 3years, generally speaking I like to work with people who are proactive. My advice for anybody new to the ER is letting people know it's okay to feel overwhelm and frustrated. Make people aware when you don't feel comfortable about a situation and be prepared to learn something new everyday. I'm sure you'll be okay, good luck!

Definitely be proactive ... when I was a tech, I was most appreciated when the nurse went to do something -- IV, Foley, EKG, labs, monitor, O2, whatever -- and found that I had already done it. As an ED RN now, I can say the same thing -- our techs rock! They save my bacon some days. With most of them, they keep an eye on the PICIS board, and I don't even have to ask them for assistance -- they're already doing it.
