13 weeks is not that long but I also do not have children so I do not know. Your children do sound old enough to understand the situation though. Besides mabye you can meet some connections?

To me it sounds like you already have doubts about this position. I would initially say...trust your intuitions. Yet, If you are willing to make the sacrifices it may take to support your family, then traveling to that job may be an option.

If I were you I would find out as much information about this job and see if it is a fit. If you are having a hard time finding a job you can sometimes settle for something like this,yet protect your license and be sure of what you're getting yourself into before you sign up for 13 weeks of work. I have always been a strong believer in the theory that god gave us instincts for a reason. The fact that you do not feel good about taking the job speaks volumes. I am from the midwest, so i am not familiar with the hospital you named. I have also never accepted a travel assignment to work. But the last time someone tried to hire me without an interview, i was just walking in to fill out an app. They had me shuffled off to "orientation" within the hour and were trying to schedule me to start the next day. I was too embarrassed to decline to sit in on the orientation, but I never went back. And i'm not sorry. Where im at now, we not only interview, but interview with multiple members of the management team. We turn away candidates who are not a good "fit". We want someone who will work well with the culture in the facility. If they do not they will probably not succeed.

Are your bills that pressing that you must go? If so , i guess just hope for the best and pack your suitcase. It sounds as if your kids are old enough to do without you(though you would prefer they not have to and that is understandable)

Here is some food for thought: For every window of opportunity that closes, another one opens. You could actually miss out on the job you are waiting for while you are off working this one that you dont even want. On the other hand, who knows what type of networking or other job opportunities will might be available through this assignment? I am afraid that this is one of those decisions that you just have to make for yourself. But whatever you decide, have confidence that you have made the best decision for YOU in your circumstances, and dont second guess yourself once you have made it. GOOD LUCK!

P. S. By the way, "only 13 weeks" is actually more than 3 months. That's 1/4 of a whole year! Don't underestimate the time you are spending away from your family to make this money. If you don't really want to go, you will just be killing time until your assignment is up and that will probably show in your job performance. If you are going to do a thing, you might as well do a good job of it! Don't go if it's just not what you want to do.

go hang out on the unit for some observation time then make your decision after you talk to staff. I do that with iffy places before accepting squat. I ask to roam the unit and take staff aside. They're always honest!
