I am currently in my last semster of Nursing School and have the desire to persue Peri-Op Nursing. I've loved it since back in the day when I was in the Army and got to cross train from Medic - OR tech. It's been atleast 8 years since then....but now that I'm graduating what would be the best route for me to get my foot in the door of an OR or PACU? Of course AFTER I pass NCLEX...which I will (hopefully..hehe)
New grad jobs are tight here, and I've got applications out, of course I'll take what I can get at this point- but I'm looking for solid steps in how to work towards getting in the OR once I am working. Thanks for whatever you can offer!

While you are still a student, join the AORN as a student member (it's about $20 for a year while you are a student). Get in touch with the local chapter and start attending their meetings and social events. Network like crazy. There is no reason why, especially with your experience, that you shouldn't be able to find a job (even in this tight economy). There are often "hidden" jobs out there, you just have to know someone who appreciates your past experience and is willing to get you in the door. Good luck to you!
