Advice for junior in BSN program

Hello,

What advice would you have for a junior status BSN student who finished med surg clinical, has free time during the summer and would like to improve for my nursing career?

For example:

Any skills to learn? Certificates?

Any job(s) you would recommend? Networking opportunities?

Scholarship opportunities?

Any advice to keep in mind for senior year?

Go to work at a hospital as a Patient Care Tech on a PRN basis and work your hind end off. Best thing you can do, hands down.

I would recommend searching for a nursing student extern program. Such a program would give you clinical skills and experience working in a hospital. But the working conditions in an extern program would probably be better than those of a CNA or tech. An extern program would be a planned learning experience designed for students such as yourself -- including classes, a preceptor, etc.

PCA, unit secretary, student nurse positions are ideal, but any hospital position at a hospital that you want to work at will be helpful when it is time to apply for your first nursing job.
