ADN programs in NYC

Published

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I currently hold a Bachelors in Business Admin and have been employed in the financial industry in NYC for 5 plus years. I have wanted to go into nursing for the past year and would like to finally take the plunge. I have a few questions I was hoping some of you would kindly help me with:

1. How difficult is it to get into ADN programs in NYC? I am looking at information at some of the CUNY and other community colleges but did not know how hard it would be to enroll.

2. Is it realistic to get a job as an RN in NYC with only an ADN. I know many 'good' hospitals probably require a BSN but is this mandatory yet? Due to time and money issues, I would like to go for my ADN and then do an RN to BSN program.

3. Also do I have any advantage that I already have a Bachelors (even though it's in a totally different field)?

4. Should I do my science pre-reqs first before applying to these schools? I took sciences in college 10 years agao and from what I've been reading, many schools require the sciences to be taken 5 yrs ago or less.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!

It's Tough To Get Into Adn Programs In Cuny Because There Are So Many Applicants. Private School May Be A Lot Easier To Get Into But The Cost Is Three Times As High.

I Is Realistic To Get A Job As An Rn In Nyc Even Though Some Hosp Only Higher Bsn. Some Actually Will Hire You If You Are Enrolled In A Bsn Program. Others Will Even Pay For You To Complete One.

Your Degree Does Give You An Advantage When Applying To Schools Because In A Way, You Are Less Of A Gamble Then Someone Who Has No Degree. You Have Proven Yourself Already.

Some Schools Do Take Pre Req That Are 10 Years Old, But You Probably Didn't Even Take The Science Courses You Need For Nursing (a&p 1 And 2, Intro To Chem And Microbiology).

If You Apply To A Cuny School, You Have To Take Your Pre Req There Because They Will Give Priority To Their Own Students Over Outsider Students. The Private Schools Don't Mind Where You Take Your Pre Reqs.

As Long As Your Grades Are Good And You Spend At Least One Semester In A Cuny School, They Will Probably Accept You Into Their Program.

Depend on where you are living, KBCC is a great school.
