ADN to BSN, does it matter where you get it from?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi, I'm looking to go into a ADN to BSN program and I'm wondering does it make a difference where you get your BSN?

Not to take away from any program or college, but are all BSN's seen equal as long as they are accredited?

Thanks for chirping in advance.

This question will be mostly a regional thing. My advice would be to call HR departments at local hospitals. Those who do the hiring can give you first-hand information that will benefit you the absolute most. Just say, "hi, I'm so-and-so, and I'm getting ready to apply for nursing school. The thing is, I want to get the best education I can. In your experience, what school has turned out employees that you have found to work out best at your facility?" Be sure you introduce yourself with first and last name, and as an added bonus, get contact info for whoever you talk to. Email them a thank you after you start the program, and maybe a quick little progress note in your last couple of semesters so that when application for jobs time comes, your name is familiar.

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

This is a good question! From what I have understood from talking to a few people, I don't think it does. I think it more of a personal ego thing than anything but for some people that's worth it

I have never had an employer care WHERE my BSN came from, only that I had one. I really and truly do not think it matters. Some people would say otherwise, but that is only because they went to such and such school.

Thanks! That sounds like a really great idea to ask hr!

I also believe it doesn't matter, but I'll let update this post as to what hr says about bsn

I say from personal experience that it matters locally. I use to believe it didn't matter until I got my current job partly because of where I got my BSN. And after talking to managers that prefer to hire people from their alma mater (local).

But other than that, no.

Thanks for your comment! I will look into which benefits me more!
