Admissions to GPC Nursing Program

Help! I'm so confused and keep hearing conflicting reports on requirements to get into GPC nursing. I have taken a lot of my prereqs (I only have A&PII and Micro left) and I keep hearing that you basically have to have a 4.0 to get in.

Can anyone tell me (who has been accepted) what their GPA was, or if they know of an average? The website says the minimum is a 2.5 but I know that is the absolute lowest. I got a C in A&PI and I'm trying to decide if it is worth it to take it again and try for a B to raise my GPA. Any advice?

Also, do they look at your entire GPA (even courses that are not in the pre-nursing requirements) or just your required courses. I majored in Psychology my first time around (at georgia southern) and have some bad grades on my records and I hope this won't count against me.

What type of score do you have to get on the NET test to be accepted? Any advice on taking this test?

Please feel free to email me with ANY information. [email protected]

Hi, I got into GPCs program for this fall (I'm terrified by the way, only 9 people made it to graduation this past May :uhoh21: ). Anyhoot, I got in with a a 3.33, maybe a little higher by the time I finished Micro this spring. I have a Bachelors degree from a few years ago and had like a 2.95 from that. I would recommend getting a minimum of a B in all Sciences. I'm not an A student all the time, I'm mostly a B student and I got in. Just like all programs, a lot of people get turned down (despite their bad reputation.) My friend had a better GPA than I did but she failed the NET test so you never know!

oh, yeah and the NET test is identical to the study guide.

It will probably do you good to cut out the middle men and call the School of Nursing yourself. Ask them about all of the things you're worried about. Tell them about your other degree and all. As far as the GPA, I think that if entry into nursing school had so much to do with GPA we would have a crisis situation on our hands. They have to take some brainiacs and some average people. Personally, I think the best nurses are somewhere in between 3.0 and 3.5. Ive seen some get into GPC with a 2.8. So dont be discouraged.

p.s. if you have the time to kick around you may try A&P in a half semester to bring up your grade. They'll probably give you an E for effort.

Thanks for the help everyone! I did actually contact the school, and they were not helpful in the slightest. I have looked into several other nursing schools, and will try to attend somewhere else. The things I have heard about GPC's nursing program, along with the negative response from the staff have turned me off from their nursing program. I am now taking A&P 1 over again to try for an A or a B, in hopes that I will get accepted somewhere. Again, thanks for your help!
