Adjusting to night shift

I have never taken red Bull or energy shots in my life. Started working night's as a tech at a residential program. It is a 10 hour four on three off shift. I have been trying to ween myself off from taking 2 red bulls and 2-3 energy shots night's on. I sleep on average six hour's...yesterday slept 8 hour's and was able to exercise. It was awesome! However, during the shift I blacked out.

I don't know if I fell asleep or what. I have to do 15 minute safety checks from the time residents are in bed usually 11. However, remember doing checks at 3:30 and around 4:45 became jolted awake. I feel I did checks, but I don't know. I think I did sleep for at least 30 minutes thankfully no issue's, but on camera so worried.

Any advice on how to stay awake during the shift? I took the job as I was just coming off unemployment and don't want to be jobless again.

Thanks
