adderall and drug testing

Oh it’ll show up. I didn’t take mine the day of my drug test but I did the day before and i got a phone call, by someone who very somberly told me “Mrs c_m_l_r18, we found AMPHETAMINES in your drug screen” in a tone that was basically daring me to try to make excuses.

I tersely told him “I TRIED to give y’all my medical records that it is adderall that is prescribed for a medical condition and prescribed but the clinic refused to take it”

it was funny how fast his tone changed ?

It was because of this that I also had to disclose my Adhd which I didn’t want to and hadn’t to any of my pre rec teachers. Not happy about that. But I’m doing well in the program and got good reviews from my clinical instructor so.... if they know they’re not using it against me.

Damn. Yeah after I posted this this morning I did some more searching and read that it can be in your urine for up to 4 days. Urine tests can pick up traces of like 0.001 mg! Luckily I already got into the school, so if I disclose my ADHD diagnosis I won't have to worry about it affecting my acceptance. Thanks for the heads up though. I'll def submit the note from my doctor before I take the urine test. Omg I can't imagine getting a call from the school telling me they found amphetamines in my urine haha. So many people take adderall though, so I feel like this would happen often

Testing labs do not ordinarily take drug lists before the testing. If a test comes back positive, the lab will contact you or the school/place of employment and request a valid prescription (if it is something that can be prescribed). Adderall is amphetamine. It is a schedule II narcotic. It shows up on a drug screen as positive for amphetamines, because that is what it is.

Hi there! I'm a nurse who's been prescribed Adderall for ADHD for several years, and I remember having that drug test fear in school. Especially since many college students abuse Adderall, having obtained it without a prescription. You're fine to take your meds as always-- just expect a call after the drug test informing you of the amphetamine result, and be prepared to provide your MD & prescription info. If the person on the phone sounds a little judgey, I'm sorry, there are always a few bad apples out there making negative assumptions.

Also, don't be afraid to disclose your diagnosis. The drug test provider probably can't even share it with your school, as you providing the script info will mean you've passed the drug test, and they should only be able to disclose a failed result. Even if your school did find out, bothering you about having ADHD is discrimination, and probably grounds to file a lawsuit against them. I take it as well; when I do pre-employment drug screening I bring the bottle with me. The 1st time they did not take a photo which I wanted them to of the bottle, 2nd time they did and I had no issues. With the 1st time, the medical director just called me to verify and got my pharmacy phone #. It wasn't a huge issue but yes, it is likely it will always show up and without a lab drug screen the office drug screens cannot differentiate between Adderal and METH.
