Hello all,

I am interested in getting a position as a acute dialysis nurse. I have never done this before. I have a almost two years hospital experience working on a tele floor with different types of patients, including those with kidney failure and requiring dialysis. I've even done peritoneal dialysis, even though I know this is different from hemo. I'm just wondering what is expected of a acute dialysis nurse? Will my tele experience prepare me for this job? In addition to training of course. Thanks!

Tele, I responded to your PM with a bunch of info...but I cannot find it in the message history. This happened the other day where I cannot find my responses to PM's (after I click "submit message" in either my "sent mail" or in the message history of a particular PM discussion).

Let me know if you rec'd the PM, please.

Good deal! Glad it helped.

Best of success!

Im new to this but I was wondering if you can send me some info to,,I have taken the training course twice,,once an LPN , and now again as an RN. Both times I have not found anyone to train me. or hire me without experience.

I'm confused. You've taken "training courses" but have not found anyone to train you?

Were these on-line, generic courses?

With most facility/company based training, it usually means you were already hired before the actual training began.

Please explain/expound, and thanks.

I am an acute dialysis nurse working in dialysis unit inside the hospital setting. Have had worked in the chronic dialysis for several years and have been doing this acute for few months. The best thing so far, I can work on my own pace alone, I can activate code for help if something happen with the patients. The patients will be pushed on their bed to my unit, 2 at the time. I will have to push my machine to the ICU patients. Only few of us in the unit, the schedule is really convenient, there is only one of us at a time. In acute setting you will be on call time anytime and you can not predict how your days will be. You may have to stay until you do all the dialysis within the hospital or you will not have dialysis at all for the whole day. You will need some dialysis experience to recognize the complications during dialysis and how you handle them. They might be the patients (low BP, cramping, nausea, agitation, restless for unstable ICU patients, pulling out needles), the machines (tests, disfunctional pumps, maintenance, disinfections), and other things (setting the surgeries for access problems, bleach in the water supply, blackout, overflow from chronic during the storms). That's all I can tell so far, let me know if you need more information. Good luck.
