ACEN Accreditation?

Hi everyone!

Im new here and hoping to get some more insight on accreditation as I'm still a little confused about certain aspects of it.

I will be finishing up my prerequisites this fall and then will be applying to the program. It is a AAS nursing program that once graduated students are eligible to take the NCLEX. The program is accredited through Michigan State Board of Nursing and Higher Learning Commission and seeking accreditation through ACEN. I want to go onto my BSN eventually (probably online) and my school assured me that I would be able to do that because they are actually working on a program with U of M for that. Anyways of course they couldn't tell me when they would have that accreditation just that they are working towards it. Likely they won't have it when I start the program in fall of 2019 but maybe so?

My problem is that I do not want to live in Michigan forever, my plan is to move 1-2 years after graduation. Since my program isn't accredited by ACEN will that make it so I'm not eligible for a license out of state? I'm sure every state may have different requirements but I'm wondering what everyone's general opinion/experience is on this.

Thanks everyone!

Many schools for BSN want the associate credits to be from an ACEN school. And some states BoNs. You will need to look individually to the schools and states you wish to pursue or a clear answer
