What is considered accreditation for LPN programs? If you get an LPN degree and pass the NCLEX from a school like unitek or imed or something like that and it doesnt seem their accredited can you still take the NCLEX and can you transfer from state to state?
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if you could go to a school say Unitek, WCC or some tech school like that that is no nln accredited and after you take the nclex, can you transfer your lpn license to get another job in a different state because my husband being in the Navy?

I could be wrong but I don't think that your state BON would recognize the program if it is not accredited and therefore you would not be able to sit for the NCLEX exam. If I am wrong, someone please chime in here.

LPN programs do not need to be accredited, because accreditation is something extra.
In order to be eligible to take NCLEX, your LPN program only needs to be approved by your state's board of nursing. For example, my home state (California) has absolutely no LVN/LPN programs that are accredited by the NLN (National League for Nursing). However, all of the LVN programs in California are approved to operate by the state's BVNPT.
I attended a trade school program in California that was not accredited, and was able to endorse my license into Texas and Oklahoma.
To the original poster: you only need to take NCLEX once in a lifetime. It is a national exam that is accepted in all 50 states and most American territories.
thank you so much =] you really dont know how much this means at a time like this to get any help possible!
