Hi!
I have been accepted into two nursing school programs in the Houston, TX area. UTHSC-Houston and Alvin Community College. Both have great NCLEX pass rates, excellent reputations, and boast quality nurses upon graduation. From a future RN looking for employment, which school would open more opportunities for better development and career choices? I'm having a hard time deciding. Fortunately for me, COA is not important and neither is driving distance from my house.
The fact that one is a BSN and the other is an ADN is a factor. I would graduate in December 2017 from the ADN program and May 2018 from the BSN program.
Any advice?

BSN - no question. Houston area hospital systems have largely stopped hiring ADN new grads. Career prospects would be limited without a BSN. I'm a bit biased. I'm a UTHSC-Houston alum (MSN). The educational experience there is hard to beat - wonderful clinical rotation sites & exposure to the wide variety of learning opportunities in TMC.
Congratulations on being accepted - you must be one smart cookie!

A general rule of thumb is that it is better to get the BSN done now at the start of your career. You will save time, money, and aggravation in the long run. And, as stated above, you will increase your employment potential out of the gate. Congratulations on two acceptances!
Thank you! I'm happy that you have experience with the school already!
