ACCELERATED PRGMS...where should I do my pre-reqs?

No responses yet? Argh. Aggravating. Are the community colleges in Chicago a good place to get prereqs completed? Truman college? Also, is the depaul direct entry msn only available to non-nursing majors with a BS? I have a BA and I wondered if that made a difference. Also, I've heard that at rush they are pretty lenient with your prior transcripts if you just do well in your interview....any ideas?

I used to live in Chicago and did a few classes at Harold Washington College )CC in the Loop). They were fine classes. You would save a bundle by going to Truman for these classes vs. Northwestern ($$$$$$).

I think the BA is fine -- they just want a Bachelor's degree and the prereqs. Chicago is a GREAT city and you will have a great time there. Just buy a very warm coat!!

I plan to attend nursing in the fall (hopefully I get in). So far out of all the fast track schools....I like WSCN the best. It's 16 month program, longer than Loyola and Rush...but I heard that they are extremely competitive. Plus my GPA is low and WSCN has the lowest GPA requirement. Did you take the NET yet? I know WSCN and Rush require it!

I just accepted into Depaul's program (MSN generic masters) which is something you may want to consider. YOu can do your prereqs anywhere including any of the community colleges.

how competitive is depaul? rush? I haven't been able to get into any pre-req classes for the summer so I will probably have to take them in the fall which means I might have to delay even starting to do applications for awhile...ugh! Oh well. I'm just worried that I'm going to spend all this time and money doing my prerequisites and not even get into a programs...that would be frustrating!!!

Check with the colleges you are applying to whether they will accept distance credit, CLEP exams or Excelsior exams for your pre-reqs. I am taking Chem and A & P I online through the Iowa Community Colleges online this summer (they are with lab -- virtual)

You can get a few things out of the way instead of waiting until fall.

I would advise taking your prereqs at any accredited junior college. Just make sure that you do very well in these courses. Anatomy and Physiology is extremely important as a prereq for nursing. I know Rush is pretty competitive. I don't believe Loyola is very competitive so that might be a school you may want to apply to. Depaul isn't that competitive. I believe you can even start in the winter quarter for their nursing program. If that's something you would want to do, then all your prereqs would have to be done before January. That might be kind of challenging but doable. Just start taking courses this summer and fall

and apply and you never know, you might get in!

I'm relocating to Chicago in about a month. My boyfriend is going to northwestern med school. Anyways, I've been looking into accelerated nursing programs and have been completely stressing out about it! I have a BA in sociology and basically have no science classes (except a few microbiology courses). I was looking into DePaul, Rush, Loyola, etc. and they all seem to require so many classes. Anyways! I'm wondering...where should I get my pre-reqs done? NOrthwestern has a one year program to get your pre-reqs done...do you think this is worth it? Do you think I'll ever get in? I would love to be able to start in January of 2006...is this feasible? Also, I'm looking for jobs in the healthcare sector so I have some experience while I'm taking pre-reqs...is this a good idea?

Ahhh....I thought applying to schools was going to be easy!!!

i am kathy. i start my nursing program this summer at moraine valley community college. i transfer later to loyola unuiversity.

first, you need to have done Certify nursing assistant course. it is requier by most of the nursing program. you need to take prerequsities, like anatomy and physiology, com 101, microbiology, psychology: intro or lifespan or abnormal usually they require. you need to have at least B from that classes because competition is very high. my school is creditable that is why i chose it. i will be done with ADN RN i start work and will finish my BSN at Loyola. it is good when you are CNA and you can work, so you get some overview about nurse job. try to get some credits from your sociology. find out if school where you go will accept some your credits. i had some accepted and i just took prenursing requirments.

i heard good things about Loyola, west suburban college, dupaul. i do not know about morthwestern, but it good hospital, so probably school too. find out if you can work for northwestern, so they can pay for your school. I have it by Loyola.

Indiana State University has a RN to BSN online program that allows an ASN RN with a bachelor's degree already ( it doesn't matter what the degree is ), to articulate immediately into the online BSN track without doing anymore pre-reqs.

They are good I think - even coming from a 4 yr college

Truman on the northside is very diverse and lots of non traditional students
