Accelerated BSN

Has anyone gotten their RN through and accelerated program? I am in the process of applying to an accelerated nursing program for students who already have a degree. It's a 15 month program, and what I'm wondering is, if you went to a program like this, how prepared did you feel to start out as a nurse? I know new nurses still have a lot to learn, but 15 months seems like a short period of time to learn so much information.

This was my initial concern when looking at accelerated programs. I just finished my program this week. I cannot begin to tell you how shocked I am by the amount of knowledge I have from being in the program for only fourteen months. I have done fine with all of my ATI exams and in clinical. I think it really all came together during my Critical Care rotation. It was this light bulb went off. I understood material from earlier classes, but now I see the big picture.

I can tell you that a few students in my cohort made a fatal mistake. They tried to memorize the information for the test instead of understanding the material and being able to apply it. They did not graduate with us. Our accelerated students run a 100% pass rate on NCLEX and the school overall a 93%. So, it works.

Good luck to you!

That's awesome! I am of the belief that the accelerated program doesn't give you time to forget anything and thus, accelerated students have the potential to do really really well! I can't imagine being in a 4 or 5 semester program with more than a couple weeks' worth of summer break - I feel like I'd rather keep trudging on and get done sooner. The pace is fast, but really the main difference (at least in my program) is that we don't take summer breaks, so it's still 4 semesters, but 2 of the semesters take place in the summer, so we get done in 15 months. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Congrats, parkerbeancurd.
