Accelerated BSN/MSN

I will be applying for the Accelerated BSN/MSN program for Spring '07 at MUSC, and I realise that I am thinking way ahead, but I was wondering about a few things. Since you have to do both programs one right after the other, the BSN is 4 semesters, then I have a summer off, and then 5 more semesters for MSN as a FNP. I will be able to work while I am in school for my MSN, but once I get out and get my FNP license, I want to do travel nursing, is this available for a FNP, and if not, could I just do it as an RN and still get the job?

Travel nursing is not available as an FNP as it takes much longer to get an Advanced Practice License in each state and that would be required of you.

You may be able to find what we call Locum Tenens as an FNP, but again you would first need to go thru the licensing process for that state, as well as gain experience as an FNP first.

You will still need to get at least one solid year of experience as an RN before you will be able to start as a travel nurse, and for most of the specialties, they are now requiring two years. If your goal is to work as a travel nurse, then why would you be wanting to go for the FNP? Doesn't make sense to me.

Becoming a Travel Nurse isn't my primary goal, the point of doing that would be because I am young, I am only 17 and will done with my MSN at around 21-22 if I choose to do the direct track. I would like to do that to get the schooling out of the way, and then work as an RN for about a year like you said to get experience, then as a travel nurse for another year to travel to a few different places, and then settle down and work as an FNP, I would also already have a license and have RN experience.
