accelerated BSN experiences

I am applying to a fast track BSN program. I worry too as I have 3 little boys. However, I would rather kill myself over the course of 1.5 years rather than 4 years. I also plan to relo back to Florida when finished. My family is there, and I miss them!!!!

I would love to hear anyone's experiences as well! I've already applied to FAU's accelerated program (my 1st choice due to location) and will be applying to Jacksonville and UF as well.

I'm in the accelerated program at USF. It's hard, but not impossible. I don't have any kids, but I work full time and the program is full time. This is only my first semester, so who knows how much harder it will get.

Hi! I am currently in my 2nd semester UF's accelerated BSN program. The program is way harder than my first degree (BS in psych from UF). First semester, I did nothing but study. This semester is tough as well, but I have a lot more free time. The program is tough, but definately doable. We have a few women in our class who have young kids, as far as I know they are doing fine. If you set your mind to getting through, you can do it. It's all about dividing your time up and prioritizing. Good luck!

It truly is what you make out of it - if you want to learn, you learn....My advice is to have your finances lined up, inquire about hospitals offering scholarships (there are tons and tons! just read the "fine" print) and be prepared to give up many things for a year. It's doable!

I'm currently applying to the accelerated BSN program at FAU. I was just curious, as I never got a straight answer from admissions, when were you notified of your acceptance? They mentioned March but that seems kind of late to me since the program starts in May.

We found out by March 10 or thereabouts. There have been a few minor changes in the administration and could possibly trigger different timelines. I would follow up sometime between mid-to-late February. If I do hear something, I'll let you know. Feel free to email me.

Futurnurse - do you really work full time? They keep saying that you "can't" work in the ABSN program. I am married, so we'll still have some income, and we have no kids yet. I'm a bartender and I was planning on getting off the permanent schedule at work and just picking up shifts as needed to cover people's vacations and be able to make rent. I'm actually applying for summer admission, or already did. Thanks for responding, and good luck to you!

Yep, I really do work full time. I work 20 hours at one job, and 16-20 at another. But, I'm only in my first semester. We had no clinicals this semester. Next semester we're having two clinicals, so I have no idea how that's going to go. Guess I'll find out in January:bugeyes:! Yeah, I know they say you "can't" work full time while in an accelerated program, but only YOU know what you can and can't handle. Good luck!

Thanks, then I feel better about my plan to remain PT/oncall with my job. I work at a small pub, and if I can work a shift or two a week we'll be a lot better off. As long as I know test and project dates in advance I can fit my work schedule around them. I've always been a very good student - not that most nursing students aren't- but have also almost always worked while in school and tend to manage my time better when it's more limited.
