accelerated bachelor degree programs

Published

Hello,

I am fairly new to the Boston area and am looking to go back to school for nursing. I already have a bachelors degree in communication and am considering an accelerated bachelor degree program. I have looked into the MGH institute of health professionals program but have heard it is difficult to get into. Does anyone know of any other schools that offer an accelerated bachelor program in the New England area? I am Northeast of Boston in Mass.

Thanks so much for any recommendations:)

hi,

I will be starting the Curry College ACCEL program in Jan 09. It is a 16 month program--will graduate in May 2010 with my second bachelors. Other programs include Simmons and Regis College (their's is a direct entry Masters, but you can finish with a BSN part way thru).

Look on all the web sites and see what prereqs are required. Most require 2 semesters of A&P, Microbio, Chem I (and II in the case of Simmons and Regis), Human Development and Statistics. Depending on the program, there may be others as well.

Good luck!

Yes... I just finished the Curry ACCEL program. There is also one from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacology and Simmons College has an accelerated BSN if you are female... (the undergraduate school is women only... the accelerated MSN program at Simmons is co-ed).

If you have a BS in something else it's a great option. If you can't get into one of the accelerated programs, you may be able to complete a conventional BSN at a 4 year school bypassing some of the other BS requirements from your previous degree so you can finish in a couple of years or so. I recommend getting your BS rather than going the ADN route if you wish to work in a Boston hospital since most either require or strongly prefer BSN's for their new graduate nurses.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info! I appreciate it so much:)

Can you recommend any good books that might benefit someone who is starting the ABSN program at Curry? Or is there anything imparticular that you should brush up on before starting the program?

Just trying to be 'proactive' rather then 'reactive'

thanks!!
