ABSN as a single mom?

I'm not a mother (yet), but I am in an ABSN program with several mothers, some are single parents. A handful of them have children as young as 4 months. They have told me that they would not have been able to do without a strong support system. Grandparents, in-laws, or great family friends have been wonderful helping with their children. According to them, it's still tough, but they are managing.

Thanks mzchas! So moving out of state all by myself may not work out so well? Unfortunately there is only one accelerated program in my state (Oregon Health and Sciences University) and I do not stand a chance of getting in.

Who would take care of your kids while your in school during the entire day? I'm in school from 8-5:30p some days.

The long days are what are making me think that I probably don't want to do an accelerated program. If I did though, I would have to move to where the school was well in advance of classes starting to get myself situated and find REALLY GOOD childcare.

I will have to look more into Linfield. An advisor at my community college had told me that they got rid of their accelerated program and replaced it with the accelerated RN-BSN program. Obviously that is not the case!

I'm in accelerated program and have one child. I will tell you, it's tough, but it's doable if you use time management. I study when he's sleep and if I get some extra time during the day, I'm studying. Having a great support system is mandatory! Clinicals are 12+ hours and school/daycare will not be open that long. If you really want it, you will make it happen!!
