Congrats on getting into the program! Here are my tips/advice for you:

1. Study up on your A&P...you need a firm foundation in this for Med-Surg and Pharm

2. Stay away from the drama

3. Never get behind in your reading...read the chapters you are going over in class BEFORE lecture!

4. Ask questions on things you are not clear on

5. Be prepared to pass up birthday parties, social events ect. Nursing school is tough, and very time consuming.

6. Record your lectures (if able) sometimes listening to the lecture again allows you to absorb the information

7. Take notes on your reading...helps you to retain what you read

8. Stock up on 3x5 cards, notebook paper, binders, highlighters, ect.

9. Invest in a good stethescope...Litman is the best and well worth the money

10. Invest in a good pair of shoes for clinical...your feet and back will thank you

11. Form a study group ASAP...if you can teach the material to someone else, you have mastered the subject

12. Invest in a dayplanner/calendar to record assignments, quizess, ect

13. Invest in a NCLEX review book...Saunders is the best I think

14. Invest in a good medical dictionary to look up words you do not understand...Tabers or Stedman's are my favs

15. Relax, breathe and enjoy the journey...take this time to see your friends, family, ect.

Best of luck to you!:nurse:
