A bit overwhelmed.

So I'm finishing up prereqs to get into a nursing program and I just started Anatomy & Physiology 1 and am just a tad overwhelmed. Its not as if the material is HARD, it is just sooo much to know and memorize. Does it get easier when the actuall nursing program classes come? If I want to be a psych nurse will I have to retain and use daily every single thing in anatomy like regions, planes, cavities, ect ect ect...I'm just hoping it gets a bit easier and am a little discouraged! Anyone have any opinions on what the hardest/easiest classes are?

A&P is a huge amount of information taken in over a short period of time. I loved it. Are you taking a lab also? It actually helps if you are in a lab and can actually visualize what you are learning about. No, you won't used all of the information every day, but you have to know it. I wish you the best of luck.

A&P was hard for me d/t all the memorization, i wish I'd had more time (I was working and with a full load in school--mostly science classes). I passed, but you are right, it was one of the harder classes for me. Nursing was hard, there were a lot of time consuming 'projects' but I really loved learning about nursing-- it didn't seem as 'dry'.

Oh boy! I remember how much info there was in A&P. I wouldn't say nursing classes are easier, there's still lots to learn, but you are always building on previous knowledge. Good luck and remember that this too shall pass.

I loved my A&P classes. It helped having a friend that I could study all the material with. We even went in during open lab time and took photos of our cat so we could visually see what we had to study on the lab portion. My instructor had also published her own lab book that we used and it was very helpful.

I would say that nursing school by no means is easy. I think the classes vary in degree of difficulty depending on the subject matter. I was on a quarter system in nursing school and so we had to cover a ton of material in 10 weeks(Believe me there were times I felt very overwhelmed and wondered how i'd get through it ) I put A LOT of time into studying. I was to the point of feeling lame because while other friends were out on the weekends having fun, I was in studying countless pages of material. I But I kept reminding myself that in the end that it would all be worth the hard work!

Don't get discouraged. Use whatever resources are available to you and get creative with learning materials!

Best of luck to you! :)

Nursing classes aren't as tedious, in my opinion. They're far more interesting. however, they are not any easier. You'll still have a lot to memorize - diseases, pathology, medications, treatments, etc. Don't be too overwhelmed though, it comes together eventually. And yeah, you'll have to remember your A&P - - at least to get you through nursing school. Also don't forget that psych patients often have physical problems (diabetes, high blood pressure, and so on) that you'll have to take care of too!

Good luck! :)
